The first day

Taking care of your tattoo properly the first days after, is crucial for its healing.

Here are some easy instructions to start off great!

𖤓 Leave the gladwrap on for around 2 to 3 hours or till home. If your tattoo artist has opted for second skin, resume these steps after the second skin starts to peel of or after 2 to 3 days.

𖤓 When you come home either in the shower or sink, gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and scent - free soap.

𖤓 With clean hands, wash off all the blood, plasma and ink until clean.

𖤓 Pat the tattoo dry with paper towel or a clean towel and let the tattoo breath. You do not need to wrap your tattoo again unless you don't like your tattoo leaking on to sheets or clothes. It’s advised to wear something loose and old on the first night of the appointment when you sleep. Just so your clothes and sheets don’t get dirty.

𖤓 Do not balm your tattoo until 2 days after the tattoo appointment and let it dry heal.

Healing Process

𖤓 If you chose to wrap your tattoo in glad wrap for the first night, take off the wrap and with clean hands repeat the cleaning method mentioned above, to cleanse your tattoo. Please do not wrap your tattoo after the first night.

𖤓 Your tattoo should not leak any more blood or plasma after this, unless it was a heavier and larger scale tattoo. Do not worry if your skin feels tender and is still red.

𖤓 Please repeat the cleaning process in the morning and evening. If you find that you need an extra clean, usually if you are working with long sleeves, doing a gym workout or feel like your tattoo has been exposed for too long without a clean, feel free to do so.

𖤓 Over the next few days, your tattoo will start to scab and peel. This means your tattoo is healing and the perfect timing to start applying balm. Please only use a little amount to ensure the tattoo isn’t over moisturised.

𖤓 Repeat these steps for at least 2 to 3 weeks or until a new layer of skin has formed and the tattoo is healed.

𖤓 Check out the next paragraph for the DO's and DON'Ts

Do's and Don't s

𖤓 DO NOT go in the ocean, creeks, lakes or any large bodies of water that have dirty environments with your new tattoo as this may cause infection.

𖤓 DO NOT expose your tattoo to the sun.

𖤓 DO NOT scratch your tattoo or peel the ink during the scabbing process as this may cause fall out in the tattoo.

𖤓 DO wear protective, loose clothing when going outside or working.

𖤓 DO clean your tattoo if you have been out for too long and your tattoo is still fresh.

𖤓 DO NOT use heavy aftercare creams such as Bepanthen. These aftercare creams tends to clog up your pores and therefor don't allow the tattoo to breath.

𖤓 DO use a very light layer of aftercare tattoo balm to avoid over moisturising! Check out the after care products I'd recommend.
